Meet the Farms and Kitchens Behind Our All-Natural Dog Treats
We get asked a version of the same question a lot: what actually makes a dog treat "all-natural," and is that just a word on a bag? So we went and looked at what's actually behind the all-natural dog treats on our own shelves, specifically the two lines our customers keep coming back to, Farm Hounds and The Chosen Spot K9 Kitchen.
Farm Hounds: one ingredient, start to finish
Farm Hounds treats, things like their Beef Strips, Chicken Gizzard Sticks, and Pork Heart, are about as simple as a dog treat gets. Every one is a single ingredient. Beef Strips are pasture-raised, grass-fed beef and nothing else. Chicken Gizzard Sticks are pasture-raised chicken and nothing else. There's no ingredient list to decode because there's only one ingredient on it.
Farm Hounds describes its sourcing as "transparently sourced," and the animals behind these treats are raised to support regenerative agriculture, meaning the farming practices are meant to work with the land rather than deplete it. That's not a health claim, it's a sourcing choice, and it's one reason these treats show up so often in what our customers reorder.
The Chosen Spot K9 Kitchen: small-batch, ingredient by ingredient
The Chosen Spot K9 Kitchen, a woman- and veteran-owned kitchen based in Canandaigua, New York, takes a similar approach from a different direction. Their Chicken Feet are a single ingredient, organic chicken feet sourced from Stoney Acres Farm, a named local farm, not an anonymous supplier. Their Veal Liver Jerky is exactly one ingredient too: organic veal liver.
Where a recipe calls for more than one thing, like their Blueberry + Oat Bones (organic rolled oats, organic coconut flour, organic blueberries, organic raw honey, organic brown eggs, and water) or their Gluten-Free Peanut Butter Bones (organic brown rice flour, organic peanut butter, water, organic cinnamon), the ingredient list stays short enough to read in one breath. Every batch is made by hand in small runs, not on a factory line, and every batch is third-party lab tested and AAFCO compliant, meaning an outside lab checks the nutritional numbers on the label actually match what's in the bag.
What "all-natural" means on our shelves
Across both lines, the pattern holds: no fillers, no artificial flavors, no synthetic preservatives, no bleaching agents, no hidden sugars. Just real, named ingredients from real, named farms and kitchens, in bags small enough that a batch doesn't sit around for months before it reaches your dog.
That's the whole point of stocking treats like these. Not every treat on the market can say where its one ingredient came from. These can.
